Rimmo's BEM Ceremony Took Place At Oakwell Today

21 June 2017

The late Norman Rimmington was recognised in the Queen's New Year's Honours list just prior to his passing, and today he was awarded the British Empire Medal.

With his family and loved ones in attendance for the ceremony, as well as a number of Club personnel including CEO Gauthier Ganaye and Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom, it was a proud morning for the Rimmington family as the Lord Lieutenant at Her Majesty's request presented the British Empire Medal.

It was Norman's grandson Richard who received the BEM on behalf of Rimmo and he spoke to us afterwards and told us just how proud he felt.

"It's such a special day for us" he said. "We'd have obviously preferred Norman here to get it himself but like I said earlier, he'd have only moaned about having to stick a suit on, he'd have moaned about us being on the grass!

"But no, it's a proud day. He was an inspiration to our family, he made us who we are. He deserved this, he really did."
