The Reds centre-half was speaking following today's friendly with Grimsby Town.
One of a raft of summer signings for Barnsley, Ethan Pinnock made his second Reds appearance of pre-season and felt that whilst it's just about fitness and the group of players gelling at this stage, there was room for improvement.
He told iFollow: "I'm fairly pleased, but there's still lots of room for improvement. We're still getting back to full sharpness, and I know I have a lot personally still to give. But it's been a steady start.
"Obviously coming into a new team, it does take a little while to adjust. But all the boys here are sound and I'm building new relationships every day.
"We all have to get up to full speed. Everyone would prefer to be playing the competitive games, but it's part and parcel of this time of year, we need to get fit and ready so we can look forward to the start of the season."
