Jamie Clapham Signs New Contract!

14 July 2017

We can today confirm that First Team Coach Jamie Clapham has agreed a new contract to remain at Barnsley Football Club.

Having joined the Reds in September 2016, Clapham played a large role as Paul Heckingbottom’s assistant throughout the successful 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship campaign, which saw Barnsley return to the second tier and finish a highly respectable 14th.

As a former professional player who featured at the highest level of English football and in Europe, Clapham’s experience within the game is strong. He is now continuing to progress his coaching skills and has helped the development of players both in the first team and youth set-up at the Club.

With the Reds now embarking on another exciting season, there was never any doubt in the former left-back’s mind that he would be staying at Oakwell and continuing to partner Paul Heckingbottom on the touchline.

Jamie said, “I am really pleased to have signed a new deal and to be staying here. Ever since I have come in I have felt at home with both the excellent coaching staff already here and the players. They are a great bunch who have listened to what we want them to do and I feel we delivered that during last season. Both Hecky and I have different approaches to the game which helps in different areas, but ultimately we both want the same thing which is results on the pitch. I am really looking forward to the rest of pre-season and the games getting back underway.”

Heckingbottom commented, “I am glad we’ve been able to agree a new deal for Claps and to do it quickly. He’s been great to work with and has fitted in really well here, as well as giving his own ideas to help the team. We’ve spoken at length about our extensive plans going forward and what we are looking for with the players, both on and off the pitch. We’ve all put in the hard-work so far during pre-season and we want the matches now!”
