THE GAFFER: Guiseley Away

12 July 2017

Paul Heckingbottom gave his thoughts following last night's 3-3 draw away at Guiseley in the Reds opening pre-season friendly.

The Reds twice had to come from behind to level the match up, thanks to two magnificent second-half strikes from Zeki Fryers and George Moncur.

But it wasn't vintage Barnsley, with many new players getting their first minutes under their belts ahead of a busy pre-season schedule as the Reds prepare for the 2017/18 campaign.

Hecky felt it was a useful exercise in terms of the players' fitness and for him and his staff to work on one or two things moving forward.

"I saw lots of good things, especially with the ball. We passed it quicker, we broke lines with passes, there were lots and lots of crosses into the box. We should have had more goals really.

"The flip-side of that was the stuff we don't want to see out of possession. Not the individual errors that led to goals, but other things, the tactical things that we need to address.

"But it's great that it's come out in a game because you can then show the players and highlight where we need them to improve."
