U18s | REPORT: Barnsley 2-0 Huddersfield Town

28 January 2017

Two excellent Wilberforce Ocran goals secured a Yorkshire derby victory for the young Reds!

Barnsley Under 18s secured an excellent 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town Under 18s on home turf.

Wilberforce Ocran netted two goals in three second half minutes to secure victory for the Reds in a game of relatively few chances.

Sam Tingle's first half penalty miss looked to have let Huddersfield off the hook but Sham Bertie broke from inside his own half and crossed for Ocran to open the scoring midway through the second half.

Ocran doubled his tally two minutes later when he smashed home Mo Saeed's excellent pass to put the result beyond all doubt.

Ocran drew a fine save out of Ryan Schofield at his near post early on while Will Alderton stood up well to deny Cedwyn Scott the opener.

The Reds were gifted a chance to open the scoring six minutes before the break when Louis Rowe was chopped down inside the area, only for Sam Tingle to see his penalty saved by Schofield.

HALF TIME: Barnsley 0-0 Huddersfield Town.

Schofield got down quickly to deny Kane Swinburn's free kick on the edge of the area six minutes after the restart before Mo Saeed's ferocious drive fizzed just wide of the mark moments later.

Scott missed Town's best chance of the game when he failed to slot home George Danaher's pull back with the goal at his mercy, but Adam Lund put his body on the line to block.

Barnsley, under the leadership of Martin Devaney and Vinny Brockie, then took the lead o 67 minutes and in some style.

Sham Bertie picked up the ball inside his own area, powered away from three defenders and crossed for Ocran, who blasted past Schofield from six yards.

Moments later, he doubled his tally by firing home a blistering effort from Saeed's pass that put the result beyond all doubt.

Victory completed a league double over Huddersfield for the first time in the Professional Development League, keeping their first clean sheet since October in the process.
