Adam Davies Signs New Contract!

26 January 2017

We are delighted to confirm that Reds goalkeeper Adam Davies has today signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract with Barnsley Football Club!

The new deal will keep the stopper at Oakwell until June 2019. Having joined the Club in the summer of 2014, Davies has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Reds and has firmly cemented his place in the side.  His recent form has been truly outstanding and this is further emphasised by the Welshman’s current consecutive appearance tally which stands at an impressive 67 games!

During the record breaking year of 2016 which saw Paul Heckingbottom’s side clinch promotion and a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy double, the ‘keeper kept a magnificent 22 clean sheets throughout the calendar year. As well as that record, Davies also played every single minute of competitive football for Barnsley Football Club during 2016.

Following his impressive form during his time at Oakwell, Davies has also received international recognition with Wales, who included him in their senior squad selections during 2016 and he travelled away with the team on a recent World Cup Qualifying trip to Austria.

In the 26 EFL Sky Bet Championship matches that Barnsley have played this term, Davies has kept nine clean sheets, showing that he is one of the brightest young ‘keepers in the game at only 24 years of age.

Having tied his first choice goalkeeper down to a new contract, Reds Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom said, “I’m delighted that Adam has decided to commit his future to Barnsley Football Club and there is no doubt that he thoroughly deserves this deal.  He has been a massive part of our recent success and he is constantly improving as a player.  If Adam carries on the way he is playing, he has all the attributes and attitude to become one of the best goalkeeper’s this Club has ever seen.

“We’re all pleased to keep him here on a longer deal for footballing reasons, but the personal qualities that he brings to the side are just as important to us in keeping him here. He’s a positive personality in the dressing room, he’s a great lad and he’s shown real commitment and loyalty to us by signing this new deal.”

Upon signing his new deal, Adam Davies said, “I am thrilled to have got this contractual extension sorted.  I want to be here because of the quality of the coaching and opportunity.  Barnsley is the perfect place to be if you want to keep working on both your game individually and as part of a team.  I have a lot of ambitions as a keeper and I look forward to achieving them at this Club and at international level.  I would like to thank the fans for the support they give me during games.  It has built my confidence and allowed me to play at my best at critical times.”
