It's a Boxing Day stalemate here at Oakwell.
In a repeat of last season's fixture between the Reds and North End the game ended goalless this afternoon in what was actually a very exciting, end-to-end encounter.
Paul Heckingbottom made four changes from the side that were edged out at Fulham at the weekend, with Stevie Mallan making his long-awaited debut in midfield.
In a frenetic start to the match, the Reds threatened with a couple of free-kicks before Lloyd Isgrove was targeted out wide, twice scythed down as he broke clear, with Paul Huntington booked eventually by the referee.
The visitors tested Adam Davies on 15, the Reds stopper making a superb save to his right before Jordan Hugill cannoned the rebound against the foot of the post.
Half an hour in and Gary Gardner fired an effort just over the bar after some good, one-touch football out wide between Adam Hammill and Andy Yiadom had worked the Reds some space.
But it was a first half of very few clear opportunities for either side.
HALF TIME: Barnsley 0-0 Preston
Five minutes after the restart and Joe Williams spun inside the box but saw his shot blocked after a fine ball into him from Tom Bradshaw.
On 63, Callum Woods produced a perfect, last-ditch slide-challenge inside the box to deny Gardner who was through on goal following Yiadom's delightful through-ball.
Harvey Barnes replaced the returning Isgrove on 73 minutes and the on-loan winger forced Chris Maxwell into a superb save when he tested him from range.
Mallan soon tried his luck from a similar area, 25 yards out but again Maxwell was superb in his reactions, clawing the ball away.
Despite seven minutes of injury time added, neither side could produce a match-winner with both sides having to settle for a festive share of the spoils.
