Jamie Clapham on Preston stalemate

27 December 2017

The Reds First Team Coach reacted to yesterday's 0-0 draw with Preston North End.

On a cold Boxing Day afternoon at Oakwell, both the Reds and Alex Neil's high-flying Preston side failed to hit the net in what was however a very entertaining draw in the Sky Bet Championship.

A repeat of the scoreline from last season between the two sides, Clapham felt that despite both sides firing blanks, it had been an exciting watch.

"I think it was an exciting game for the supporters," he said.

"It was two high-energy teams going at each other. An even game where I think we were on top in the first 15 minutes before Preston began to come into it. So getting to half time with the scoreline 0-0 was important for us at that point.

"We then tweaked a few things, spoke to the players and I think we came out in the second half and were really positive.

"We'd have liked to have taken all three points of course, as always, but we have to be pleased with the performance of the team. I think it's noticeable that one or two players have improved recently, performance levels are getting back to where they need to be.

"It's a difficult league, the Championship. There's lots of clubs who've spent a lot of money on their teams. It's Reading next up for us, a team who themselves made some good acquisitions who play just the same style as they did last season when they were a penalty kick away from the Premier League.

"We met them recently and were on the end of a very disappointing result. It's up to us to get another positive performance out of the team and hope we can get the right result on Saturday."
