22-year-old full-back arrives at Oakwell on an initial two-year deal!
We can today confirm the signing of Dimitri Cavaré from French Ligue 1 side, Stade Rennais FC. He joins the Club for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract with a one year option in the Club’s favour, subject to international clearance.
The highly-rated young defender is a product of the RC Lens academy and was on the radar of Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye throughout the summer, becoming one of Paul Heckingbottom and the Clubs number one targets.
Standing at just over 6ft tall, Cavare showcased his talents to the Oakwell crowd in the pre-season friendly with Huddersfield over the summer whilst on-trial with the newly promoted West-Yorkshire outfit.
The former French U20 international has had an impressive pre-season and that was rewarded with him being offered opportunities to play in the Premier League, as well as elsewhere in Europe. However, he has elected to join the Reds after meeting with Heckingbottom and Ganaye, seeing their plans for the side over the coming years.
Cavare has both the pace and power required to get up and down the wings, as well as being able to track back and defend, adding all the attributes that Heckingbottom was looking for in his backline.
Paul Heckingbottom spoke highly of his latest summer signing, saying, “This is a fantastic deal for the Club and I am delighted have to secured the services of Dimitri. Everything I have seen of him has really impressed me, as well as many other Clubs around Europe. He's listened to everything we’ve had to say and fully believes in our project here. Gauthier brought Dimitri to my attention and once we knew there was a chance of him joining us, it was a no-brainer. He’s come from abroad so we will integrate him into the Club and the local area, I look forward to working with him.”
