Bradshaw: "We just didn't do enough to break them down."

29 April 2017

Tom Bradshaw spoke to the media after seeing the Reds draw 1-1 at home to Burton.

Bradshaw felt that Burton's defensive approach caused his side a real problem but fully accepted that the Brewers needed a point to stay up and congratulated them in doing so.

"I think the performance was there, but Burton clearly came for a point and congratulations to them, but it was hard to break them down but I think there was a lot of positives in the game and it was unfortunate that we let a weak goal in.

"It was pretty much 10 behind the ball from the start so it was difficult to play a team who only came for the draw, it's always hard to break down an entire team behind the ball but the performance was there, we just didn't do enough to break them down."

The Reds got promoted with today's visitors last season and secured survival quite a while ago. This draw today added another point to an already impressive tally but Bradshaw wants to turn draws into wins.

"One thing I would say is that we've drawn too many games where we've been in charge then let them slip. It's all a learning curve and we'll improve as a team to get better. I think it's possibly concentration because lately when we have been in front we've let in weak goals that we're obviously not happy with. I think the positives are that we're getting in front and getting control of the games, it's just a matter of keeping that control then seeing the game out."

The players and coaching staff at Oakwell went around the pitch upon the full-time whistle to thank the fans for their support in what has been an excellent season of Championship action.

Bradshaw wanted to thank everyone for their vital support, as well as giving his opinion on his own performance.

"The fans have been terrific all year both home and away, they have really been the twelfth man, I know it's a cliche but they really have been brilliant all season. It's my first season at Barnsley and the fans have fully lived up to expectations. I would have liked a few more goals personally as a striker but if you look at the team the goals have been spread out fairly evenly with a lot of us above five which is an experience for me."
