The Reds defender wins national qualifier to compete at the upcoming darts tournament at the Barnsley Metrodome!
We are delighted to announce that Reds defender Adam Jackson has turned a passion of his into a real life dream by qualifying for the upcoming ‘OVER THE TOP’ professional darts tournament! Adam ‘The Moonwalker’ Jackson, as he is affectionately nicknamed in the world of darts, will now go up against some of the world’s biggest names at the Barnsley Metrodome on Friday 16th June 2017, including former world champion Dennis Priestley and current world number one Michael Van Gerwen! After winning a local qualifier that ‘Jacko’ was entered into by his Reds teammates, the initial joke started to turn serious when he won and reached the final round of the national qualifiers. After a fiercely contested, best of five sets match against Oxford based Billy-Jean Geller, Jackson prevailed 3-2 with a checkout of 130 in the final leg!
His unconventional approach to the game has already gained nationwide interest as the defender wears one white glove for grip and comfort whilst throwing the arrows. The tournament at the Barnsley Metrodome promises to be an absolute thriller, and Jacko is asking fans to suggest songs for his walk-out music which will be played as he enters the arena. Fans can tweet suggestions to the Club @bfc_official.
The Darlington-born central defender will now enter the tournament in high spirits, but remains focused and determined to put up a fight against some of the world’s best competitors!
Upon reaching the finals, Jackson said, “It all started as a bit of a joke, but it’s quickly turned quite serious for me! It’s a dream come true and I’ll be there enjoying the experience as much as possible, but after progressing so well I want to try and win something! We have a big family and I’m one of five siblings who’ll all be there on the night, so hopefully I can do them proud.
“I first got into darts when I was 11, during the school holidays. I was bored so I threw a paper aeroplane at my brother Jermaine jokingly and it hit him right in the eye. We fell out at first, but when we made up it was actually my Dad that suggested I turned my accuracy skills into something more productive, so I started playing darts!
“I also have to admit, and it has been a while that I’ve kept it a secret, but the reason I chose to wear number 18 on the back of my shirt for Barnsley is because it’s as close as possible to the famous 180! It’ll certainly be tough going up against the likes of Van Gerwen, but I’ve been studying his game intensely on my days off from football. He’s an absolute monster in the world of darts, but I know that I have what it takes to beat it. LET’S…. PLAY…. DARTS!” He quipped.
