Yiadom: "We want to bounce back!"

22 September 2016

Andy Yiadom spoke to the media today ahead of this weekend's long trip south to Brighton.

The 24-year old defender has jumped up two divisions since agreeing to join the Reds back in May of this year, and he says he’s loving his life as a Red in the Championship.

Yiadom said, “We’ve got off to a good start, the lads have all put in good shifts and I am really enjoying my time here. All the boys have confidence in their ability and as a team we work hard for each other so when you’ve got that, then you’ve always got a chance of doing well.”

The Reds defended had signed on at Oakwell before the Club went to Wembley for the League One Play-Off Final and admits it was a nervous time for him watching on from afar.

“The boys were playing really well in League One at the time of the move and thankfully they went all the way. On the weekend of that final I was away on holiday. So I’m there holidaying while the boys were all at Wembley grafting! But obviously I was watching on keenly and they did very well and I’m grateful to be playing in the Championship.”

Andy thinks last weekend’s slow start against Reading didn’t help the Reds but feels that it’s a learning curve for the squad and every game is a tough one, but an opportunity to learn and develop.

“We started a little bit slow in our last game and that cost us. We did lose but I think we finished the game strongly. We’ve got Brighton at the weekend and we’ll aim to take the lessons learned into that game. We want to bounce back and hopefully get a result.

“The whole Championship is tough, they’re all tough games and you’ve got to be on your ‘A’ game, put 100% in. We intend to do that on Saturday.”

The leap in divisions not only means a huge step up in quality for Yiadom to contend with, it means he is getting the opportunity to play at different venues, but he sees that as something to thrive off, not something to fear.

“It’s a great stadium at Brighton and I’ve never played there before. I’m looking forward to it. We went to Wolves, away from home to a very good stadium so if we can replicate that performance then we stand a good chance.”
