International Round-Up

5 September 2016

A summary of the Reds international players' exploits over the weekend

The international break was a busy one for four of the Reds new signings, with Sam Morsy, Jake Charles, Adam Armstrong and Saidy Janko away with their respective national teams in various age groups.

Deadline Day loan signing Morsy has been in Egypt where he made his full debut, playing the second 45 minutes in a friendly against Guinea. The tough-tackling midfield man was booked late on and will be hoping to get more minutes as ‘The Pharaohs’ take on South Africa tomorrow evening in another friendly in Johannesburg.

Having signed with the Reds late on Deadline Day, Charles dashed down to the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham where the following night he was a 71st minute substitute as the Welsh Under 21s were beaten 4-0 by their Danish counterparts. He will hope to be included again on Tuesday as Wales take on Luxembourg at 5pm.

Yesterday afternoon, loanee striker Armstrong played 63 minutes for England’s Under 20s as they went down 2-1 in Kidderminster against the Under 20s of Brazil. He put in a fine performance and was denied a goal after seeing his penalty superbly saved early in the first half.

The Reds final recruit on Deadline Day was Celtic winger, Janko. And he was an unused substitute in the Switzerland Under 21s 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan Under 21s. The young Swiss travel to Bosnia for Tuesday's game and Saidy will be hoping for some valuable game-time.
