Hourihane called up for International duty!

23 September 2016

Skipper gets deserved Ireland call-up.

After a fantastic start to the 2016/17 EFL Sky Bet Championship season, the Reds captain has been rewarded with his first ever, full International call-up! The squad for the upcoming World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Georgia and Moldova was named by Martin O’Neill this morning and Conor will join up with Ireland following next weekend’s local derby against Leeds United.

The Championship’s Player of the Month for August courtesy of his stellar displays throughout the opening month of the campaign, he was watched at Oakwell last weekend by Ireland’s assistant manager Roy Keane, the man who brought Hourihane over to England back in 2009 when manager of Sunderland. A fellow Cork man, Keane then took Conor to Ipswich Town and so his admiration is well-known. It seems O’Neill has also joined the Hourihane fan club!

The Reds talisman had previously represented his country at other youth levels but the call-up he’s been yearning for – and in our opinion deserves – has finally happened. We will keep you up to date with how Conor gets on during the International break via all our social media platforms. And later today we will bring you reaction from the man himself!

In the meantime, why not head over to our official YouTube channel and watch Conor’s goal compilation video by clicking HERE.

Tickets for tomorrow’s game at Brighton are still available as they are for Tuesday night’s fixture too as we welcome Aston Villa to #FortressOakwell! Visit the e-ticketing website HERE
