Adam Armstrong: "The three points is much bigger than my goal."

10 September 2016

Match winner Adam Armstrong spoke to the press after a fantastic goal secured the Reds three points away at Preston.

Player of the month for August Conor Hourihane played a superb ball over the top to Armstrong, which he latched onto, produced a stunning piece of skill and curled left-footed into the top corner.

On the goal, Armstrong said, “It’s all crazy at the minute. I came on in the 60th minute I think it was. I knew I just had to get in behind them and put my pace to their defenders.

“Conor played an amazing ball over the top and I just gambled. I’ve took a touch past the defender and curled it in, I’m really glad for all of us as it’s a great three points for the team.”

Armstrong spoke about his start to life with Barnsley after coming off the bench to win the match for Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

“I don’t think you can start better than that. I knew I was going to be on the bench so I had to make an impact when I came on and I think I’ve done that, getting the goal. The three points is much bigger than my goal, so that was good.”

After playing with his teammates for the first time, Armstrong went on to praise the work-rate in the squad.

“The lads worked really hard this afternoon and like I said, I don’t think we would have deserved to get beat or get a draw. I think we’re all happy to get three points which is the most important thing.”
