Reds Donate Medical Supplies To Local Club!

25 October 2016

We are delighted to announce that Barnsley Football Club have donated a large selection of medical equipment and supplies to local side, Athersley Recreation FC.

As a Football Club at the heart of the local community, we are always proud to support causes and projects which will benefit the Barnsley borough. As part of our community programme, Barnsley FC's Craig Sedgwick (Head Physiotherapist) and Nathan Winder (Head of Sports Science) recently put together a range of medical equipment to donate to NCEL Premier Division side Athersley Recreation FC, who were very grateful.

Athersley Rec Director Alan Richardson was delighted to receive the donation and commented, “I would like to thank everyone for the amazing donation of medical supplies you passed on to our club yesterday. In a situation like ours where we rely heavily on sponsorship and donations we were absolutely blown away with your generosity. I would also like to thank Craig and Nathan for the warm welcome we received and the time they afforded to Bob Smith and myself despite their work commitments. Absolutely amazing gesture.”

The Reds' Head Physiotherapist Craig Sedgwick commented on the donation, “The majority of the staff here are from Barnsley, so we couldn’t be happier to support any part of the local community where we can. We feel that the supplies and equipment that the Club has given to Athersley will really see big improvements to the medical services that they can offer their players. As soon as we met with Alan and Bob we were delighted to help them out. The town of Barnsley is one that loves football and whether you’re professional or just like a kick about with your mates, there is of course always a risk of injury. Hopefully Athersley don’t need to use much of the equipment we’ve sent over, but if they do it’s now there to help the whole team.”

The Reds played a friendly at Athersley’s Sheerien Park during pre-season, with an excellent number of fans in attendance to watch the match. The Rec ran out 1-0 winners that day against a youthful Reds XI side. The pre-season match was part of the Reds commitment to supporting club’s in the local area.
