Yiadom: "We’re looking at it as trying to catch the team in front of us."

5 November 2016

After a second successive away clean sheet for his team, defender Andy Yiadom spoke to the assembled media following the 0-0 draw with Burton.

Yids felt that the team had worked hard in a match that could have gone either way, reserving special praise for Reds number one Adam Davies.

He said, “I felt that the boys dug deep and did very well. I felt we could have got a result and in the first half we could have maybe been 2-0 up. Second half they were on top but we stayed strong. Davo (Adam Davies) was excellent and he put in a couple of key saves, we’ll take the draw.”

With two clean sheets in a row now, Yiadom puts it down to hard work of late on the training pitch.

“I think that goes to show how hard we’re working – especially the back four. Together we’re making clearances and stopping crosses, they were a big team and together we all did well and dug deep. It shows how hard we’re working on the training pitch, getting in the right positions defensively, so we’re all working hard to keep improving.”

The Reds defender is part of a back-line that has stepped up and played at a higher league this season.

“It’s great playing week in week out in the Championship, I just want to keep putting in good performances and getting results. It’s a big step-up but we’re in here now so we have to get on with it and keep putting in good performances, hopefully getting some points on the road.”

The Reds sit firmly in mid-table after a good steady start to their EFL Sky Bet Championship campaign. Yiadom explained that they are only looking upwards.

“We’re looking at it as trying to catch the team in front of us. That’s how we’re going about things. Where we are in the league now we’re doing well, but we just want to catch the team in front of us and see what happens.”
