Jamie Clapham Commits His Future To The Club.

3 November 2016

The Reds First Team coach has today signed a contract until the end of the 2016/17 season.

We are pleased to announce that Jamie Clapham has today signed a contract to remain as the Club’s First Team Coach until the end of the 2016/17 season. The 40-year-old initially joined the Club back in September on a short-term deal and will now continue in his role assisting Paul Heckingbottom and the Reds coaching staff for the remainder of the current campaign.

Following a hugely successful playing career spanning 17 years and over 400 Football League and Premier League appearances, Clapham boasts a wealth of coaching experience having worked with Middlesbrough, Coventry City and the England Under 20s. He is now looking forward to continuing his career at Oakwell.

Clapham said, “It’s been a really enjoyable five weeks for me and I’m absolutely delighted to sign a longer term deal. I initially came in to give Hecky and the coaching staff a helping hand and since then we’ve built a fantastic working relationship. Barnsley have put together a very talented, young and hungry squad, and I'm really excited to continue working with the team for the rest of the season. The facilities here are superb; it’s a brilliant environment to work in and a great place to continue my coaching career. We’ve enjoyed an excellent start to the season and I’m confident that we have the tools to go on and make an impact in the Championship.”

Since his first appearance in the Reds dugout away at Leeds United Clapham has provided invaluable support to Paul Heckingbottom, and the Barnsley Head Coach is delighted to have secured Clapham’s service on a longer term basis.

Hecky said, “I’ve really enjoyed working with Jamie and he’s been a huge help behind-the-scenes. He’s great to have around the dressing room and he’s already built a really strong relationship with the players in such a short space of time. His coaching skills are first class and I’m delighted that he’s chosen to continue his career at Barnsley Football Club. He’s someone I know very well, someone I trust and he’s someone who understands our philosophy and what we want to achieve here. It’s a very exciting time at the Club and I’m looking forward to working with him for the rest of the season.”

We’ll be putting the fans questions to Jamie Clapham as part of our ‘Getting To Know…’ series, which will appear on Barnsley Player HD! Want to ask the Reds First Team Coach a question? Tweet your questions to @bfc_offical and use the hashtag #AskJamie
