Jacob Brown Signs Professional Contract!

1 November 2016

We are delighted to announce that Jacob Brown has signed his first Professional Contract with Barnsley Football Club!

Putting pen to paper on a two year deal, Brown will be contracted until the summer of 2018.

The 18 year-old made his first team debut during October in the 2-0 victory over Brentford at Griffin Park, coming off the bench and impressing the watching crowd on his first professional appearance.

Brown is a pacey, strong and intelligent young forward who has progressed superbly through the Club’s Academy in recent times, leading the goalscoring charts for Paul Harsley’s U23s side in the 2016/17 season.

Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom didn’t hesitate to reward Brown for his fine form and called him up to the first team squad, awarding him the number 26 shirt.

Speaking exclusively to Barnsley Player HD following the signing of his contract, Brown said, “This is a really happy moment for me and my family, they've all told me how proud they are of me which is a great feeling. I’ve worked hard to get it and now I know I need to keep working hard and see what happens. The Gaffer congratulated me and has said well done on the contract. He’s said it's exciting times for me.

“Making my debut at Brentford was a mad experience, probably the best day of my life! All of it happened so fast. It has made me continue to work hard and make sure I am in the squad again.”

Reds Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom was pleased to secure Brown on a new two year deal, stating, “Browny has done really well and has been rewarded with this deal. He's been scoring goals, but also working hard and listening to what we're trying to ask him to do which is the most pleasing aspect.

“All of the lads know that there is a clear pathway to the first team if they are committed and work hard enough. We have seen Browny and Josh Kay come into the side in recent weeks and do well. It’s now up to Jacob to keep his head down and work hard to continue his progress.”
