Jackson: "We deserved to win the game."

19 November 2016

Adam Jackson spoke to the press after helping the Reds to their third clean sheet in four matches.

The Reds central defender had to cope with plenty of long balls over the top from Wigan today, which he did well, and felt that his side could have got all three points.

"A clean sheet is positive but I think we deserved to win the game. We were the better team, had more chances and we dominated the ball so we were unfortunate not to get the goal."

Wigan approached the match in a defensive manner which the Reds players worked out quite quickly, but struggled to break down.

"From the first ten minutes we knew what their game plan was and we needed to break them down, but unfortunately today we couldn't. We created a few chances but not enough clear cut I don't think, but it was good to get the clean sheet and it's another point."

Marc Roberts returned from injury in the match today to partner Jackson in defence and Jackson felt that the concentration amongst the defence was important.

"We had a lot of the ball so for me and Robbo (Marc Roberts) it's about making sure that if it comes our way, we can get it straight back up. We kept hold of the ball and made sure they couldn't counter attack, so concentration had to be key today."

The Reds had the best chances throughout the match, with Jackson feeling he could have had one of his own. Jackson then went on to say how he felt the side had built up some good momentum from early on in the game.

"There were a couple of good long throws and I think I could have got my head on one, so I'm a bit gutted about that. It's just one of those days where we couldn't find the net. Last half an hour in the second half and last ten in the first half, we had built up some really good momentum and I thought we were maybe going to get one, but it wasn't to be."
