Bree: "We will learn quickly from this."

25 November 2016

Reds defender and man of the match James Bree spoke to the media following the defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The right back was disappointed to lose the match but spoke of how the side will learn quickly from this defeat.

He said, “It’s one of those up and down games, I think we played quite well in the first half but it was just a few silly mistakes and we weren’t as solid as we normally are. Hecky said to us that we are not a side who plays pretty football but gives goals away, but that’s exactly what we did today. We played some good football first half but gave three silly goals away.”

He continued, “The sending off made it harder, but it was just one of those games that didn’t go for us. I feel like they got lucky with their chances as they went forward three times and scored three goals in the first half, it’s a tough one to take. We’ve been really solid lately, and not so good going forward. Tonight it was the opposite, we were good going forward and poor defensively. We will learn quickly from this defeat and focus on the Birmingham game now.”

Bree was voted ‘Man of the Match’ by the fans for this evening’s game, and although he was pleased to hear that, he was disappointed overall.

“It’s pleasing to get man of the match, but obviously it’s the teams result that matters. I think I played alright, but obviously I could have done better.”

The Reds Academy graduate helped to give his side the perfect start, setting up the first goal with a superb run and cross for Sam Winnall to head home.

“It’s something Hecky told me to do, believe in myself and drive forward to help the team. It’s good to keep the ball but sometimes you’ve got to make it happen yourself and that’s what I’m trying to set my mindset to, seeing if I can get an assist or a goal.”
