Barnsley XI vs Armed Forces XI

11 November 2016

A Reds XI side will travel to local side Athersley Recreation FC, to take on an Armed Forces XI side, raising money for The Royal British Legion.

The match will be held on Tuesday 22nd November, with a 7pm kick-off. ALL proceeds from the match will be donated to The Royal British Legion.

Reds Academy Manager Bobby Hassell commented, “This will be a fantastic occasion to raise funds for a great charity, as well as strengthening the continued relationship we have built with Athersley Rec. The lads involved in the game will have a real test on their hands, as well as that they will know that they’re raising funds for a great cause as well. I’m hoping we can get a good turnout of Barnsley fans.”

Captain Paul Dale, who is Head Coach of the Army U23s said, “The match will be good preparation for the Army XI to try and retain the ‘Inter Services Trophy’, which will be played against The RAF and The Navy in February. As well as the preparation for these matches, the opportunity Barnsley have given us to play them is superb and we are grateful to them and Athersley for hosting the match. It’s a great fundraising chance as well as a well contested match.”
