Academy Completes Erasmus+ Programme

31 May 2016

Barnsley Football Club is proud to announce that their participation in the Erasmus+ Programme will be complete as of 31st May 2016.

The project gave the opportunity to 27 young apprentices from Barnsley Academy to take part in a pre-season mobility training programme at Obertraun, in Austria. The young Tykes were supervised by a delegation of five coaches from Barnsley Academy.

Every year, top flight Football Clubs from all Europe travel to Obertraun to prepare for their season ahead because of its location in the heart of the Austrian Alps and for its excellent training facilities.

Our young lads benefitted from the quality of the training centre and from the experience as a whole, having the possibility to enjoy the lifestyle of professional football players for two weeks, during which they competed with local teams as well as Chelsea Under-18s in friendly matches.

The work on the pitch was complemented by classroom lessons involving FA rules on doping, match-fixing and betting, as well as some entertaining German language classes.

The project gave the Academy coaching staff the opportunity to evaluate the players on a 24 hour basis.

Barnsley FC would like to thank the Erasmus+ Programme for this opportunity and we hope to have the possibility to participate in the Programme once again in the very near future.
