"We've Got Nine Other Cup Finals" - Winnall.

23 March 2016

Reds top scorer Sam Winnall spoke to the press ahead of two big games this weekend against Scunthorpe and Port Vale. Winnall was pleased with the win at the weekend against Fleetwood and he now wants to put on a show for the Oakwell faithful.

“It’s a good fixture for us really, we’re back at home after a good win away.” Said Winnall. “It’s against a good side who are doing pretty well at the moment as well and in with a shout of the play-offs. It’ll be a good chance for us to create a bit of a gap if we can get the win and put on a bit of a show for our home fans.”

With Scunthorpe being on excellent form recently as well as the Reds, Winnall commented on League One’s unpredictability this season.

Winnall said, “Anything can happen in this league and we’ve seen that over the course of the season. We’re just trying to take it one game at a time and keep our feet on the ground and try to do everything we can to be in the play-offs come May. I think the best thing to do is take the next game as the most important one and this time it’s Scunthorpe.

“We all know how important every fixture is now. I know we’ve got a cup final at Wembley on the horizon but we’ve also got nine other cup finals, which probably people on the outside don’t realise but us in the dressing room, and we as a club, know that every game till the end of the season is really important for this season to be successful.

“We’re treating every game as if it’s a cup final and we have to go out there and win. They’re on quite good form, I know quite a few of the lads and there’s been a new manager come in yesterday. So it will be nice to see some familiar faces but my main concern is getting the win.

“This league is very unpredictable, one minute you can be flying the next you can be struggling and I think we’ve been an example of that. We just want to keep the run going and the best thing to do is take one game at a time.”

Winnall’s final words were to his team-mates by praising the character in the dressing room.

He continued, “We put pressure on ourselves because we expect the best. Within the four walls of the dressing room we put pressure on to go out and get a win. We have such a hungry and ambitious squad and it’s testament to them and the character they’ve got.”
