Reds strengthen attack by signing the Newcastle United striker until the end of the season.
We are delighted to announce that Ivan Toney has re-joined the Reds on loan until the end of the season.
No stranger to Barnsley supporters, the 20-year-old striker initially joined back in November and went on to make eight appearances for the Reds scoring two goals - his first in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Semi Final win against Wigan Athletic and a sublime header away at Colchester. Toney built up a reputation as a fast, goal-scoring forward whilst at Northampton Town, prompting Premier League Newcastle United to snap up the talented striker back in August. A number of impressive performances in the Red shirt prompted his parent Club Newcastle United to recall him from his loan spell early and the highly-rated Striker has since gone on to make two Premier League and two Capital One Cup appearances off the bench for the Magpies.
On re-signing the Newcastle Striker on loan, Reds Caretaker Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom said, "We're delighted to have someone of Ivan's calibre back for the remainder of the season. Having worked with him earlier in the season we know what he's all about and the strengths that he can bring to the squad. Ivan knows us well, he's familiar with the surroundings and he knows a lot of the lads, so he'll be able to slot straight back in and carry on where he left off in December. As we have seen previously, his pace and power can cause the opposition huge problems and I'm sure he'll be a big asset for the remainder of the season. He's recently returned from injury with Newcastle and we have to be mindful of that, but physically he's in great condition and ready to go."
