Reds ‘keeper Adam Davies spoke to Barnsley PlayerHD after another memorable performance at Wembley which saw the Reds promoted back to the Championship.
Davies was delighted with the spirit shown within the squad and reflected on his second Wembley win in such a short period of time.
“I honestly cannot believe it,” said Davies. “To think we were bottom of the league in December and we’ve been promoted, it’s honestly the best feeling in the world.
“It just shows that with a bit of togetherness in the team and team spirit, it shows you can get anywhere. We’ve got the quality with the likes of Adam Hammill and Ashley Fletcher and they produced today, but if you’ve got the team spirit that’ll pull you anywhere.”
Davies admitted he wasn’t tested much by the Millwall forwards, but he had to make one huge save to deny Chris Taylor, which was reminiscent of his previous trip to Wembley when he did the same against Oxford.
On that save, Davies explained, “It’s all a bit of a flash really, I knew I had to make the save and I did. I felt comfortable, they didn’t really test me other than that, the lads defended fantastically and right from the front we were quality so it was great.”
With such an amazing season under his belt and at such a young age, Davies has an appetite for more success in the future.
He continued, “It’ll be tough to top this but we will be striving to kick on again, we’re all young lads, everyone wants this feeling again. We all want to come to Wembley again and do well, so everyone will be looking to kick on but for now we’ll just enjoy this moment.”
Having enjoyed success at Wembley twice this season, Davies said he just wants to ‘enjoy the moment’ when asked how he felt about his side's achievements.
“I don’t know what to say, I honestly don’t. It’s been absolutely amazing. Ex-professionals have text me saying they didn’t even get to play at Wembley once and I’ve done it twice in three months! As I’ve said, we’re just going to enjoy this moment because it’s absolutely brilliant.”
