George Moncur faced the local media for the first time following his switch to Oakwell.
Moncur was keen to get his boots on and playing in front of the Barnsley fans, after stating how happy he was to have signed.
Moncur stated, “I knew the interest was there when I was at Colchester, I still had a year left but an agreement was sorted out so I could come here, I am over the moon.
“There were a few other clubs interested in me, but I went on holiday, chilled out then got the phone-call that they’d accepted an offer and when I found that out I was really happy, I can’t wait to get going.”
Like his Reds teammates, Moncur was playing in League One last season and he feels the step up to a higher division is a challenge he is relishing.
“You’ve got big teams in this league like Newcastle and Norwich so it’s going to be great to play at places like that.” He explained. “Every game is a big game, it’s a step up from League One so it will be a harder task but hopefully the lads can get through it and do well.”
After scoring 14 goals from midfield last season, Moncur gave an insight into where he would fit into Paul Heckingbottom’s side.
He said, “I would say anywhere in the midfield, mainly central. I’ve played wide but I prefer to play anywhere central, but as long as I’m on the pitch hopefully I can do my stuff.”
