21-year-old former West Ham United forward signs two year contract!
Barnsley Football Club is delighted to confirm that Elliot Lee has officially completed a move to Oakwell. After terms were agreed last week, the forward has today signed a two year contract with the option of the third year available to the Club.
The Durham born, highly rated forward - who can play both as a striker and out on the wing - enjoyed two successful loan spells last season at Blackpool and Colchester respectively, featuring against the Reds twice at Oakwell.
On securing the 21-year-olds signature, Reds Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom commented, “Elliot is another quality signing for us and I’m really looking forward to working with him. He’s exactly the type of player that we’re aiming to bring in and fits into what we are trying to build here at the Club.
“He’s young, hungry and has the drive and ambition to succeed at Barnsley Football Club, which is what this squad is all about.”
Heckingbottom continued, “I’ve watched him for a while now, he brings pace and a real eye for goal. He can play as a centre forward and also out wide as a winger, so he can be used in a number of ways and that provides us with multiple attacking options. He’s settled straight into pre-season training and he’s raring to go”.
Speaking exclusively to barnsleyfc.co.uk, Elliot said, "It’s really good to get the move over the line and I can’t wait to get going. It’s been in the pipeline over the summer and there were other Club’s interested, but as soon as I knew Barnsley were interested I knew I wanted to come here”.
“I met with Paul Heckingbottom and he really impressed me, my Dad and my agent. He got across his ideas and where the Club is going, and it’s an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. Stepping up to the Championship will be a big test for me, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait to get going. It’s a young, hungry squad and I really think we can surprise people this season.”
