Roberts Pleased With Point and Clean Sheet

23 February 2016

Towering centre-back Marc Roberts gave his thoughts to the press after seeing his side keep another clean sheet, despite being down to 10 men.

The Reds had to battle towards the end of the match as Adam Hammill was shown a straight red meaning Bury threw bodies forward and launched the ball into the box, after a first half performance that saw Roberts’ Barnsley side create the better chances.

“First half we did alright with a good spell, if we took our chances we could have been a couple up.” Roberts explained. “We took the game to them but unfortunately we’ve then gone down to ten men losing Adam Hammill, but then we showed great character to grind out what was a good point in the end.

“We had to be resilient and stick together as a team, which comes from the front. We defended well and ground it out in the end.

“The pitch wasn’t great but first half we played some nice football in spells and had some good chances but the second half we didn’t really threaten them as much as we’d like. We said at half time we wanted to come out and play our passing game to create some more chances though.

“I didn’t see the red card so I can’t comment. Hammill will be a loss but we’ve coped without him before but we’ve got a good squad so it’s a big chance for someone else to come into the squad and do well.

“The lads are obviously all a bit disappointed because we wanted to come and win the game, but with the events that happened you’ve got to see it as a good point at the end.

“It’s been a tough two games in succession for me. Two hard games, but I am pleased to get the clean sheets as that’s what I am there for. We’ve been on a great run and we need to keep taking it game by game. We’ve got two more tough games coming up so we’ll just keep going and see where we end up.”
