Paul Heckingbottom's Bury Reaction

23 February 2016

Caretaker Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom spoke to the press following his side's goalless draw at Bury.

"I think we have to be happy with it in the end, with the battling performance and the point and the clean sheet," said Heckingbottom. "At half time we wouldn't have settled for a point. I thought we were the better team and wasted some good opportunities.

"We were disappointed it was nil-nil at half time and we expected more of the same. It turned into a bit of a battle and a war of attrition. We coped well with everything they threw at us.

"We battened down the hatches and made sure we got the point so we have to be pleased.

"I think some of the decisions made out there made it seem the game was more physical than it actually was. It stopped the flow of the game."

The big disappointment was the fact Adam Hammill saw red for a tackle on Danny Rose.

"We'll have to look at it with Adam and the Club and see what happens because we're going to miss him for three games,"continued Heckingbottom. "He'll be gutted if he has to miss the three games, as we will because he's been a big part of our squad.

"Those performances from us are the bare minimum. We can guarantee that organisation and commitment every single week. On top of that we want the quality we've been showing in the last few weeks. Today, circumstances went against us in terms of us being able to display that quality. We have to be happy with the bare minimum which is the organisation, work rate and commitment, as well as the desire to keep the ball out of the net.

"It shows how far we've come. We were looking a good side but not getting results. Now we are looking a good side and being a good side.

"We are pleased with the point. We'll take the positives out of it and work on the things we can do better."
