Davies: "It’s a massive game for the fans and we all know that."

12 December 2016

Reds 'keeper Adam Davies spoke to the media ahead of the South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Back-to-back victories against Birmingham and Norwich has seen the Reds rediscover their early season form, along with Adam Davies keeping three clean sheets in his last three away matches.

“I see this match as a bonus now. Anything we get from there is a bonus, I know it’s a cliché but I want to keep taking it game by game. We’ll keep focusing on each game as it comes and then we’ll see where we end up at the end of the season.”

The Reds number one came to Oakwell following a spell at Hillsborough and is now looking forward to going back in Barnsley colours.

“I’m looking forward to it.” He said. “That was the one fixture I looked for when they were released. It’s going to be a good occasion, but it is just another game. We’ll be preparing for it today and have been doing for the last week or so.

“My time there was good. I never really played a game though, but I met some good people there, the coaches and other staff that I am still in touch with.

“The main reason I came here was to get some game time and become a number one, so all in all it has been a good move now.”

Davies’ side have had an excellent first half of the Sky Bet Championship season and sit firmly in mid-table, but only three points off the play-off positions. The stopper has seen a huge growth in the Club over the last 12 months or so.

“It has been a crazy year, one I will look back on at the end of my career and think yeah, that was a good season. We are still striving though to do better in everything we do. We’re working hard on the training pitch every single day, we want to kick on we don’t want just one good year we want to keep doing it year after year to keep that consistency.”

Derby matches have many different elements to them and Davies stated how much the side want to win for the fans at Hillsborough.

“It’s a massive game for the fans and we all know that in the changing rooms. It’s obviously a personal one for me as well, I want to try and get the win, hopefully we can go and do it.”
