Central defender joins from Middlesbrough on a three-year contract.
We are delighted to announce the signing of central defender Adam Jackson who has today signed a three-year contract at Oakwell.
After beating off competition from a number of rival clubs, Adam joins the Reds from Premier League side Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee and will go straight into the First Team squad. At just 22-years-old, Darlington born Jackson has built a solid reputation as a tall, powerful, ball playing centre half with an eye for goal.
Last season the defender enjoyed a successful loan spell at League Two side Hartlepool United, making 25 appearances for the Pools and scoring three goals. Jackson made a big impression working under former Red Craig Hignett at Victoria Park, and rounded off a hugely successful season by winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award.
Since progressing through the Middlesbrough FC academy, his technical and defensive abilities have seen him gain international recognition within the England setup. The Reds latest signing has been capped at England Under 16, Under 17, Under 18 and Under 19 level.
Reds Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom commented, “He stood out and excelled in League Two with Hartlepool, and having watched him for a long period of time we know exactly what he is capable of. He is ready for the challenge of the Championship. He’s a player with great strength and will provide us with a big physical presence at the back. His ball distribution, speed, and ability to bring the ball out from the back fits perfectly into our playing style and I’m really looking forward to working with him as we look to continue what has been a superb start to the season.”
