Left back joins from Queens Park Rangers on a three-year contract.
Barnsley Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Cole Kpekawa from Queens Park Rangers on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Cole has today agreed personal terms and passed a medical with the Reds ahead of his switch from West-London, and will link up with the squad immediately.
Signed primarily as a left back, but also with the ability to operate as a centre half, the fast-paced, strong and tall defender brings versatility to Paul Heckingbottom’s squad. He has been highly sought-after by a number of different clubs so we are delighted to welcome him to Oakwell.
Standing at 6ft 3, Cole has a growing reputation within the game and has featured four times for England U20s, making his debut in a 5-0 victory over the Czech Republic.
On the transfer, Paul Heckingbottom said, “We have monitored Cole for quite some time now and I am delighted to bring him in. He’s tall, quick, strong, with a good left foot. He’s only young and that will help him fit into this group of players.
“He’s ambitious and wants to be here, that was key. He’s demonstrated all the ability and determination to be a Championship player and I can’t wait to get him integrated within the group, show him our system of play and get him out onto the pitch.”
A powerful and accurate left-foot has seen Kpekawa score some superb goals already in his short career, drilling home some stunning efforts into the top corner from long range. Watch the video of Cole’s goals above!
We’ll be putting the fans questions to Cole as part of our ‘Getting To Know…’ series, which will appear on Barnsley Player HD! Want to ask the Reds latest signing a question? Tweet your questions to @bfc_offical and use the hashtag #AskCole
