Centre half completes Premier League move.
Further to an undisclosed transfer fee being agreed with Swansea City AFC on Friday last week, we can today confirm that Alfie Mawson has agreed personal terms and has completed a move to the Premier League side.
The 22-year-old joined Barnsley back in July 2015 and went on to enjoy an impressive first season with the Reds, helping the Club to win the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and promotion back to the Championship via the Play-Offs. He has subsequently enjoyed a solid start to the 2016/17 season, scoring two goals.
In his spell with the Reds, the London born defender made 64 appearances for the Club, scoring nine goals.
As well as his efforts on-the-field, Alfie has also gone an above and beyond the call of duty off-the-field. Most notably the defender befriended four-year-old fan ‘Little Alfie’ Ledgeway, as the young Red continues to recover from brain surgery.
We would like to thank Alfie for his fantastic contribution to the Club over the past 14 months, both on and off the field, and we wish him all the very best in his future career.
