Smith Can't Wait to Get Going

3 September 2015

Barnsley's newest recruit Michael Smith spoke about his deadline day move to the Reds and what he hopes he can bring to the side during his time at Oakwell.

“When I was told I was going on loan to Barnsley I was thrilled,” said Smith.

“I’m glad to be here. I’ve met all the lads and all the staff and I can’t wait to get going.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Swindon and they have been a great club to me but in the back of my mind, I’ve wanted to move back up North and I’m pleased it’s come off.”

Smith has been struggling recently with blister problems but insists they will not be enough to stop him from playing against Shrewsbury this weekend.

“The blisters have been a nightmare," he added. "I get them every pre-season and they normally wear off by now but hopefully they’ll ease off.

“They would never stop me from playing and I’ll be ready this weekend if I’m picked.” he stated.  Michael outlined what the fans can expect to see from him during his time at Oakwell.

“I see myself as a target man but I like to think of myself as quite mobile," he continued. "I can run the channels, hold the ball up and bring other people into play and I always like to score goals.

“I’ve got four months to show what I can do and if anything comes of it I’ll be over the moon.”
