Reds 0
Fleetwood 1 (Proctor 29)

Despite enjoying the lion's share of possession the Reds were once again left frustrated as Fleetwood Town's solitary goal from Jamie Proctor extended Barnsley's bad patch of results.

Nick Townsend made a routine stop inside a minute at his near post as he kept out David Ball's low, drilled effort and the Reds had to weather an early storm at the visitors started brightly.

On three minutes all of Oakwell was on its feet as they came together to remember three-year-old Reds fans Mitchell Hepworth, who was tragically taken from us last week.

Barnsley came on strong with 10 played and enjoyed a decent spell on the ball with Crowley looking for a way through from the edge of the box but twice Fleetwood cleared for a corner.

On 18 minutes Dan Crowley curled in a decent effort that had Maxwell concerned but it sailed wide after the midfielder did well on the edge of the Fleetwood box.

Josh Scowen tried his luck from 25 yards on 26 minutes but Maxwell made a simple catch as play opened up for the former Wycombe man.

After Barnsley had taken control of the match, the visitors took the lead when Proctor capitalised on a poor pass in the Barnsley half, burst past Roberts and tucked beyond Townsend a minute before the half-hour mark.

Five minutes before the break Lloyd Isgrove latched onto a nod-down 35 yards from goal but his half-volley was well held by Maxwell.

In first-half stoppage-time, only a superb save from Maxwell kept the scores level. Alfie Mawson's 30-yard free-kick was kept out of the top corner by a strong hand from the Fleetwood 'keeper.

Second half

Lee Johnson made two changes at the break as Marc Roberts and Dan Crowley were replaced by Lewin Nyatanga and Michael Smith.

Harris was blocked on 50 minutes when he tried to cut in from the left to hammer at goal. At the other end Grant forced a very smart stop from Townsend with a curling effort from the corner of the penalty area.

As the Reds pushed for a leveller, a corner from George Smith caused mayhem in the box with Kadeem Harris trying to turn home but, in turn, he gave Jonsson a whack on the head as the defender cleared from the penalty spot.

A decent move from the Reds on the hour mark resulted in another decent save by Maxwell. Isgrove delivered from the right after Michael Smith and switched well and the big striker got on the end of the delivery but saw his low attempt well held.

The Reds had to clear their lines inside the six-yard box when a Fleetwood corner landed on the head of Wood but Smith was on hand to sweep the danger away.

But Barnsley failed to carve any real opportunities despite Fleetwood being content with sitting in and allowing the Reds all of the ball.
