Lee Johnson's Scunthorpe Utd Reaction

31 October 2015

Reds Head Coach gave his thoughts on today's 2-0 defeat at Scunthorpe United.

"I thought, first half, we were very good," said Johnson. "We asked the players to show that spirit of attack. Straight away we got a shot off after Ben Pearson made that driving run.

"People were bright and positive in our intent. Then we can't legislate for that, it was a poor goal to concede.

"We kept going. I thought we were the better side in the first half. But we conceded another goal as we failed to stop the cross.

"We can't get it over the line. Tangs (Nyatanga) had a good header and Smudge (Michael Smith) had a couple of good shots. That's the way it's going for us. You can't keep conceding poor goals, particularly the first goal. The first goal in a match sets the tone.

"Then we get the penalty and miss that as well! Sometimes you think if the footballing gods are with you or not.

"At half time, we tried to rally them because we genuinely felt we could get back into the game.

"There have been far too many individual errors."

Looking ahead to Tuesday's match at Coventry City, he continued, "Kadeem Harris is out with the start of a fracture to the shin. Conor's (Hourihane) out, Marley's (Watkins) out, Ryan Williams is out. Adam Davies was on the bench but he can't kick the ball. If he played he would need someone to kick the ball for him.

"We have to bat on. I genuinely thought we could get something today.

"We can turn it around. With our best 11, we are competitive in the top half of the division. We have players to come back and we have the chance to add some players."
