Pearson on Cup Tie At Altrincham

5 November 2015

Reds midfielder Ben Pearson is looking forward to a 'local' match this Saturday, with a trip to Altrincham practically on his doorstep.

Pearson has played at Moss Lane many times with Man United's Reserves, and can't wait to face Altrincham in the FA Cup First Round.

“I know a few of their players and it’s not far from my house!” Said Pearson. “The lads I know told me they are strong and they will be well up for it. It’s probably the biggest game of their season.

“If we get the win it’s something to build on and we need that. We have York on Tuesday so if we win this one it will put us in good confidence.

“The game has come at a good time. We’ve had a torrid time of it the last few weeks but now we’ve got two cup games in which we are favourites so we should win and gain in confidence for the Port Vale game.”

After a run of defeats in recent weeks, Pearson is determined that the team get back to winning ways.

“In my career I’ve probably never lost three games on the bounce so this is new to everyone," he continued. "We’re all frustrated and annoyed but we’re taking each game as it comes. We need to pick up points as quick as possible.

“It’ll all come back with confidence. The gaffer has been great and each game we have a different plan. We’ve been on a bad run but if we win the next two the confidence will be back.”

Pearson was asked about whether the FA Cup was still special, and his thoughts about the competition.

“In England it’s the biggest cup competition you can play in.” he explained. “For teams in our league it’s massive as you can progress to the play the big guns like we did against Everton."
