Long Buzzing After Netting Last-Minute Winner

23 November 2015

Barnsley debutant Kevin Long said he was ‘buzzing’ after scoring a 90th minute winner which saw the Reds deservedly win away at Oldham.

Long started and played the full match, then gave his thoughts to the press following his impressive debut.

“We dominated first half and had a lot of chances.” Explained Long. “We should have been two or three nil up. In the second half we expected their reaction and we ended up camped in our box a little bit, it was hectic.

“I thought we showed good character to carry on playing once they scored and we deserved the win.”

The Reds conceded their goal advantage with just ten minutes remaining, but Long explained how the Reds found a winner.

“I’m just a clinical finisher!” He joked. “I reacted quickest and got the finish in. We just kept going and got the winner. I’ll try my best to do my bit but everyone will join in together and we’ll work well as a team.”

Long has had a torrid eight months on the side-lines with injury and the big centre half explained how he felt about getting back onto the pitch and the time he has remaining at Barnsley.

“I was buzzing to be back out there. I was delighted just to warm up, hearing the roar from the fans was amazing. It’s been too long without games, so I’m buzzing to be back. I’m already looking forward to Tuesday.

“I’ve seen the lads in training and we just needed a bit of luck. Everyone is really positive, I’ve spoke to the lads and they said they could have won a few of the games we lost. We’re still up for it and fighting, that showed today and we got the victory.”
