Important Travel Information For Sunday 3rd May.

1 May 2015

We would like to advise both home and away supporters of potential travel disruptions for our final game against Rochdale on Sunday 3rd May, 12:15pm kick-off.

The Tour de Yorkshire cycle race comes through Barnsley on Sunday 3rd May, which may impact upon travelling time/traffic congestion and parking for fans attending Oakwell.

The race will be held on 1st - 3rd May (Friday to Sunday) and is expected to become the flagship cycling event in the UK in 2015 and an outstanding cycle race in the international calendar, including the participation of top international teams. It will be broadcast live on national TV and throughout Europe.

Unlike the Tour de France which was held on a completely close road route, this race will be run along the same lines as the Tour of Britain with closed sections, mainly around start, finishes, climbs and sprints. The rest of the race will run with a rolling road closure route escorted by the Central escort Police Motorcycle group  along with civilian motorcycle marshals and marshals supplied by the event organiser.

The Tour de Yorkshire passes through South Yorkshire on day 3 of a 3 day event. It will enter Barnsley from West Yorkshire, the hand over point will be the local authority border where The limes Golf Club is situated on Wakefield Road, S75 6JZ. From here it travels along via the A61 Barnsley Road, A61 Wakefield Road, A61 Old Mill, Turning left on to Eldon Street, Regents Street, Church Street, St Mary’s Gate, Church Lane, A635 Huddersfield Road, A635 Wilthorpe Road, A635 Barugh Green Road, A635 Lane Head Road  and exit into Kirklees area of West Yorkshire at the Local Authority border.

The route within Barnsley is 12 km and will involve numerous road closures authorised from 11am to 3pm to allow safe passage of pedestrians, road users and participants. The race will enter Barnsley at around 12:54pm  and take approximately 20 minutes before it leaves into West Yorkshire.

Local residents are encouraged to read the BMBC residents notice ahead of the game on Sunday and plan your route to the match accordingly. Please click here to read the notice.
