Sam Winnall's Post-Match Reaction

7 March 2015

After making his comeback from injury and getting himself on the score sheet in this afternoon’s 3-0, Sam Winnall gave his thoughts on the day’s action.

“My first goal in three months, it was a fantastic feeling. Obviously scoring a goal is great whenever it is. I love scoring goals in training but it felt a bit more special because of how long I’ve been out.

“It has been a frustrating time for me and to get back and score straight away in front of the home fans is phenomenal and it was just brilliant.

“The fans were in such good voice all the game and it was great to repay them with a goal.”

Speaking about his time out, he said: “The most frustrating thing about the injury was the fact that I felt so good and for long periods of time during the rehab I felt as though as was close to returning.

“I’d have a setback and then get close to coming back and just have another setback. It was so hard to stay mentally strong but thankfully I had the best support around me from the football club and my family and friends. Now I feel as if I’m back and I’m hungrier than ever.

“The lads have been brilliant in the last five games and it is a pleasure to get back involved with them. I think if you look at our performances over our last five games when we’ve been unbeaten, the organisation and the solidarity that we have had has been what we have been looking for all season.

“We want to be in those play-off positions come the end of May and the best thing to do now is to keep focussed and concentrate on the next game next week.”
