Barnsley's reserves huffed and puffed but couldn't find a way through against Coventry City this afternoon, with a trialist scoring a brace for the visitors.

The Reds fielded four trialists, with Coventry City's line-up featuring three, as this closely-fought game went the way of the visitors.

Turgott got in behind the Reds' defence on eight minutes but could only drag his shot wide. His effort five minutes later was on target this time, although big Jean-Yves M'voto got in the way with a fine block.

At the other end, M'voto came close to giving his side the lead on the half-hour mark as he met Dale Jennings' in-swinging free-kick but he didn't connect well with the cross and side-footed wide.

Dale Jennings improvised from 40 yards with a brilliant curling effort that bent just wide of the top corner - it would have been a remarkable goal from the wide man.

Six minutes after the break saw the visitors take the lead through a trialist after a good delivery from Turgott. The forward headed past the helpless Dibble from Turgott's wicked delivery.

On 69 minutes the same duo combined to make it 2-0, as Turgott slipped in the striker to punt beyond Dibble from just inside the area.

Brown attacked a rebound at the far stick from Jennings' shot as the Reds pressured to get back into the tie but couldn't find a way through.
