Three-year deal for Alfie
Barnsley Football Club is thrilled to have fended off stiff competition to land the signature of promising young centre-back Alfie Mawson on a three-year deal.
Hillingdon-born Mawson was hot property this summer after a stunning season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers where he swept the club’s end-of-season awards and the Reds are delighted to welcome the defender on board for the new campaign and beyond.
Last term, Mawson was an integral part of the Wycombe side that reached the League Two Play-Off Final at Wembley - proving a real threat on the end of set-pieces with seven goals in 50 games.
Speaking after signing his three-year deal at Oakwell, Mawson said, “I’m really pleased to get this sorted and can’t wait to get going. I was lucky to have lots of interest from elsewhere and even the Championship but once I met Lee Johnson here at Oakwell my mind was made up quickly.”
The Club are in discussions with Brentford regarding a compensation package in relation to Alfie's training and development.
