Reds 1
Leicester City 2
The young Reds more than held their own against the Category One Academy, but the Foxes secured the win in Barnsley Under 18s' first pre-season match on home soil following a two-week training camp in Austria.
Speaking after the 2-1 defeat, Burton said, "I thought the lads were superb, to be fair. Pre-season's all about getting the lads fit and making sure everybody comes through unscathed.
"We did work on the tactical side of our game, in and out of possession. After scoring early on I thought we sat a bit too deep as a unit.
"It was addressed at half-time and we went at them in the second half."
Jack Alton (number eight) tucks home the opening goal
Jack Alton scored the Reds' opener inside the first minute after latching onto a rebound from Mo Saeed's left-footed effort.
"I thought the performance in the second half was excellent," continued Burton.
"We stress our philosophy from Under-9s up. We want one-touch, attacking play. We want to take the game to the opposition but don't want to have that soft underbelly when we're out of possession.
"It was a great test today against a good side with some good, quick players."
