Johnson Pleased With Reds' Attitude After Kilmarnock Win

21 July 2015

Reds Head Coach Lee Johnson caught up with Barnsley PlayerHD following his side's pre-season friendly against Kilmarnock.

Conor Wilkinson's second-half header proved to be the difference - notching a goal in the 54th minute.

"I'm pleased," said Johnson. "It's a jump up in class and in opposition. It's not easy coming here on an astroturf pitch and, sometimes, it's difficult to play on that.

"I thought our attitude was very good. I thought there were some good individual performances, the team shape was good and we were reasonably comfortable. We probably could have scored another couple.

"First half - I felt we didn't really show an attitude to score. We had some lovely play and lovely passages of play. But I can remember one where Conor Wilkinson should have hit it with his right foot.

"Second half, I felt we were a bit more dynamic. We had a few more shots, set-pieces and were dangerous.

"It was Conor Wilkinson's first ever headed goal - and he's six-foot-four!

"There was a lot of good stuff today. Hopefully we're timing it just right. I'll still say we need two or three by the start of the season to bulk the squad and bulk the team.

"It's another win in pre-season and I'd rather us be in that habit than not."
