Johnson: Our Lads Can Learn From Ex-Reds' Display

20 July 2015

Reds Head Coach Lee Johnson says his side can learn a lot from the last 20 minutes of Saturday's win over Mansfield Town.

The match against the Stags was dedicated to Bobby Hassell as his testimonial match, with a former Reds XI taking to the pitch after 70 minutes.

Speaking to Barnsley PlayerHD after the game, Johnson said, "I thought it was brilliant. It showed exactly what we're about and what senior players can give you and the savvy that some of the guys came on with.

"You see some pot-bellies and some of them struggling to move but the decision-making was fantastic. They knew they had to hold on for 20 minutes but, actually, they did more than that. They dictated the game in their half for 20 minutes. It was really good to watch, I really enjoyed it!

"Our lads should take lessons from that. Our lads are mobile, they can get on the ball. We know where we're short. We need that electric speed in behind to be able to change the game. We popped it about quite nice at times. But we look naive at times. If i can blend those two groups together - the mindset of the 'last 20 minutes team' and the quality and energy of my 'first 70 minutes team' then we'd be flying."
