Barnsley's second pre-season friendly ended in a goalless stalemate at Guiseley's Nethermoor Park on a gloriously sunny evening.
The Reds started well and enjoyed two decent chances in the first seven minutes through Winnall and Mawson.
Striker Winnall had the first opportunity on four minutes, but he blazed over the bar after being very smartly played in by Marley Watkins. Just over two minutes later, Mawson thought he had broken the deadlock when he let fly from 22 yards. The Guiseley 'keeper Drench, however, turned his effort over for a corner with what was a neat save.
The hosts responded through Adam Boyes when he picked up on a half-clearance by the Reds but he dipped his strike just over the bar.
Guiseley's Nicky Boshell spurned an even better opportunity for the home side from inside the box as he curled wide with his left peg on 26 minutes.
Five minutes before the break, Sam Winnall was replaced by Brad Abbott meaning Conor Wilkinson pushed on up front.
Goalmouth action was very little in the third quarter, although former Tyke Atkinson nodes over from a deep corner as the home side pressed on 66 minutes.
Substitute Matty Templeton drove into the area on 83 minutes and drilled a low effort across the face of goal. Unfortunately, his drive was just off target and no red shirt was on hand to tap home.
