Maris at the Double Against Owls

Sheff Wed 0
Barnsley 2 (Maris, 25, 60)

George Maris struck two fine goals for Barnsley Reserves in a 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

The forward bagged his brace in the 25th and 60th-minute to give to stretch the Reserves' unbeaten run to four games.

A very young defence was also praised by Senior Development Coach Paul Heckingbottom, as he said, “We worked really hard. After our last away game at Crewe, when we played well in patches, we were quite poor at organisation and set-plays. So we stressed the importance of that, and worked hard to carry it out.

"Everyone put a shift in and that’s why we had a clean sheet. The hard work of the lads got the reward."

First-year pro Maris netted both goals after swift counter-attacks, with first-year scholar Logan Jeffs providing assists for both goals.

Reds team: Davies, Jeffs, Templeton, Rogerson, Gooda, Digby, Bailey (Pedro 80), Boakye-Yiadom, Maris, Hemmings (Kassouri 85), Oates.
