"Onwards and Upwards" - Hourihane

3 August 2015

Reds midfielder Conor Hourihane is eyeing to take part in the season opener against Chesterfield this weekend, having recovered from a knee injury this week.

Last season's top scorer made a cameo appearance in Saturday's 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town before completing 45 minutes for the Reserves this afternoon.

Speaking to Barnsleyfc.co.uk, Conor said, "It was nice to be back obviously and get something out of the game," said Conor.

"Obviously it's been a frustrating pre-season for me with the injury, so getting any minutes under my belt was important coming to the start of the season.

"I asked the gaffer and the Physio if I was fit enough to play and they agreed that it would be good for me.

"It's given me confidence going into the start of the season."

Now Hourihane is targeting an even better season alongside Lee Johnson's new signings with Chesterfield the season-opener on Saturday.

"All of the new lads have fitted in really well," he continued. "They've done very well at times. It's all positive going forward and I can't wait to get back going again.

"From here on in it's onwards and upwards. I can't wait for the season to start."
