The Reds have completed the Youth Loan signing of highly-rated young goalkeeper Nick Townsend from Birmingham City.
A promising goalkeeper, the 20-year-old has signed on a short-term youth loan which runs until 1st November 2015.
“Since I heard of the interest, I’ve tracked the players coming into the Club and I’ve been very impressed with the quality of the players recruited.
"I am really pleased to join the Club for what is sure to be an exciting season ahead," said Nick, speaking to Barnsleyfc.co.uk.
"I know the goalkeeper Coach, John Vaughan, and after speaking with Lee Johnson, I can't wait to get cracking. This is a remarkable opportunity for me to progress at a big Club in a very competitive league.
Townsend’s promise at St Andrew's was rewarded with a two-year deal, with the option for a third, back in May of this year, and the goalkeeper is excited to join the Reds ahead of the new campaign.
"They're a hungry and talented squad and I'm really looking forward to pushing Adam Davies as far as possible during my time here," he added. "It’s very encouraging to see the opportunity Adam was given and should I get my chance, then I’m here to take it.”
